It’s gotta be Primal for me

All the ones I’ve watched (the top row) are wonderful, but Samurai Jack is a definite standout.

I hate that Grievous from this Clone Wars show isn’t really cannon anymore. They did such a good job making him legitimately frightening, and it really sold the idea of him being capable of hunting jedi for sport.

Anyone care to sell me on Primal?

You know those episodes of Samurai Jack where there was almost no dialog but the visuals were amazing? That’s most episodes of Primal. Except with more blood and gore because it’s not for kids.

I was really really excited about Primal. Samurai Jack was such a formative show for me and Primal sounded like they had handed Tartakovsky a large budget and told him to just do whatever he wanted, for whatever audience, and he chose an R-rated dinosaur theme. Fricking amazing setup. The show itself…kinda drags. The first 5? episodes are non-stop creative freedom. They were everything I hoped for and more. I remember watching those early episodes with my mouth just hanging open at the sheer audacity. But over time he tries to weave more of a story, integrate more characters and I don’t think it works particularly well. The visuals are all incredible, there are great moment in every episode, but I didn’t particularly care for season 2. It just wasn’t working for me.

If you like Samurai Jack then you should definitely watch this. It’s a master of animation and storytelling showing a new, more mature side of himself. It is shocking, beautiful and absolutely worth a watch. I wish season 2 had lived up to my expectations but I’m grateful for what we got.

One of the things that made Samurai Jack stand out for me was the limited amount of dialog. I learned a lot from it about non-verbal aspects of storytelling.

I never really noticed that until you mentioned it right now, and you’re right they really did a lot to set the scene and give context with little or no dialogue at all in a lot of cases

Gotta be Clone Wars for me. Legitimately the best thing to come out of the prequel trilogy. It’s a shame the cg show de-canonized it.

Alright, I’m three eps into primal and i think I’m with you.

genndy is at his best without dialogue, My favorite parts of the Star wars animated show were ones without speech, so primal is completely blowing me away right now.

so evocative and emotional and exciting. and desperate.

absolutely beautiful, too, the colors and movements are captivating.

My favorite part of samurai Jack is that opening sequence where nobody talks and you just learn about his life growing up.

primal is kicking ass so far!

        I ain’t mad at that :)

Primal is brilliant. Art from front to back. I just think that Jack is more internally coherent, and that the visuals were so fundamentally a change to what animation can be, that it tops Primal for me.

Is it me or nobody remembers or talks about The Clone Wars animated?

I just watched some episodes (they were like mini episodes) and at that time I was not very invested in the Star Wars world, but I always found it very cool… And it seems like it just vanished from people’s minds lol.

It was cancelled before it could have a proper ending. Apparently a bunch more had already been written beyond the 20 that aired.

Having said that it was a fun show from what I remember with some great character designs. A lot of “monster of the week” episodes if that’s your style.

I thought it was pretty good, there’s a lot going on in the plot so it takes a little bit to get rolling but it’s pretty thought-provoking at times.

      It’s excellent. Streaming on Max.

100% on Rotten Tomatoes and it deserves it. Season ends on a cliffhanger, so here’s hoping we get more, but even if not it’s worth seeing because it’s so damn well done

Nobody’s saying it yet so I will: Unicorn: Warriors Eternal is phenomenal. It’s maybe just a bit below Primal and Samurai Jack for me in terms of sheer impact but the scope and ambition of the storytelling and animation has only grown since he did those shows. Unicorn tells a truly bizarre tale in an unusual setting with more of an ensemble cast than most of his works. There’s definitely some sense that he’s doing it to challenge himself more. But it still works great.

Dang idk i have to watch the bottom three!

as a complete show, probably star wars right now, he did a LOT with the time he was given.
