I get my hair cut at “Barber shop near me”
There’s a dispensary in my area that’s named “Dispensary near me”
Do you live in DC?
food open now
There’s a recreational dispensary in DC in Chinatown called Dispensary Near Me.
I always see “near me” as a suggested search but it seems superfluous?
my guess is that it’s useful to distinguish between wanting the Wikipedia page for the concept of “restaurant” or restaurants actually near you
Oh I guess that makes sense.
I only ever search for things like that on maps.
Who the hell is searching for Wikipedia on Google Maps? Or for a restaurant on normal Google?
I’ll do the latter, kind of. Search using the bar at the top of my browser, then switch to the maps tab.
I thought they’d removed the maps tab as a de- monopolising move or something. Or is it only in Europe?
Right at the top for me.
What? Type in food near me in Google, and you get a list of restaurants with an overview of info on each.
That’s a good way to get a 1-star review from me lol

How about Restaurant <city>?
Reminds me of a Russian oligarch that reportedly wanted to keep people from looking up his mega yacht online so he Named it “A”. But if you just Google “yacht A” you’ll find all sorts of information on it.
On the other hand, yesterday, I passed in front of a nightclub called “ice cream shop” in Portuguese. I found it a curious name and decided to find out more about the place, but it is actually impossible to Google it out.
Keyword competiton is high though

Ooohhh, that’s even better than my local Thai Food Torino, which is also pretty SEO’d.
(Also quite good if you came here from a search engine. Italian run but kitchen is all Thai except for that one Myanmar Mon lady. We love their Pad Krapow)
