The United States has spent a record of at least $17.9 billion on military aid to Israel since the war in Gaza began and led to escalating conflict around the Middle East.
That’s only because they haven’t been able to count the dead because they’ve lost the capability. Doctors coming back to the US from Gaza are positive that dead have increased to around 100,000, although ice also seen 200,000 but no one knows now, due to many deaths under rubble, or due to starvation or disease that aren’t able to make it to medical facilities. They don’t basically don’t have the capacity to count too much more.
If you actually read the source in Lancet, you would know that this is an estimate without any evidence.
The estimate is originally from months ago and hasn’t accumulated any evidence since.
The Hamas run health ministry not only counts bodies, but also other people they have some proof that they died. For example if people are known to be buried in rubble, they are already counted. Granted not all bodies under the rubble are counted.
However the predicted high numbers of dead caused by famine and disease have not materialized during the last half year.

Says who? Israel? I don’t think you understand exactly what’s happening over there. The devastation is everywhere. Millions are displaced. The health ministry is extremely overwhelmed. Not everyone buried in rubble, starved, or sick is being counted. Whole families are being obliterated with no one left to go over and report their missing or dead family members. There will be tons of missing people who will never be confirmed, because of all these factors. Not to mention, Israel is keeping the fog of war extremely high, not only with all the bombs but the targeted killings of doctors, aid workers, and reporters and journalists.
The estimates are in numerous places. There are the ones by the Lancet, but the letter by the 99 doctors and aid workers who were just in Gaza have their own that’s higher, too. The point is, it’s being corroborated by experts who are actually there, along with being based on past situations like this. I think the doctors actually dealing with this crisis who are on the situation on the ground have a better idea of what’s happening than you do.
I don’t doubt that the situation is bad. The destruction of infrastructure makes everything more difficult, including health care. Doctors also only see the worst aspects in situations like this.
What makes Gaza a special case, is that refugees aren’t allowed to flee to a safe neighboring country or at least the West Bank. The refugees should be allowed to leave the war zone, like they are in every other war. They would be better off in a place with working infrastructure.
Hamas’ insistence on continuing the war is the reason it came to this. If they cared for their people, they would have surrendered months ago and freed the hostages. If Hamas didn’t use hospitals for military purposes, they wouldn’t be attacked.
