That one was an error on the lemm.ee side, but should be fixed now, thanks for linking it!

I don’t see any errors with this image on the lemm.ee server side, most likely it’s indeed some kind of client issue.
Interesting! We’ve had quite a noticeable spike of sign-ups on lemm.ee as well
Hey, the 20 character limit for display names is hardcoded into Lemmy. Even if we changed this for lemm.ee, I’m not sure if it would work through federation, as other instances might not accept such a long display name.
Actually, disregard that, I was looking at the wrong thing - it might be possible to raise this limit after all. I will take a better look in a few hours.
There isn’t any way to do this with the default lemmy-ui unfortunately
Hey! I’m not really sure about this at the moment. I can tell you that if the authors (or any legal entity) would contact me about this and ask for links to be removed, then I would comply, rather than try to fight it.
The maximum file size limit for images hosted directly on lemm.ee servers is always visible in the sidebar of our front page. The limit stands at 500kb per image currently.
Additionally, It’s also possible to post images larger than 500kb, they just have to be hosted externally. The markdown for this is ![alt text](image url)
By the way, as a mini-present, I have sneakily updated our Lemmy to 0.19.4! It was possible to do this one without any downtime, so I just did it quietly in the background.
For the time being, I have no plans to change our federation policy. I realize this is not what you want to hear, and I’m sorry to disappoint you. It’s just not a goal for lemm.ee to curate external instances for now.
There are probably many instances out there that have horrible content (content which would get users banned if they posted it on lemm.ee), but vetting instances and maintaining a defederation list is a big effort, and I believe this effort is much better spent elsewhere.
I’ve stated this in many other similar threads, but let me also reiterate here: the above should not be taken to mean that lemm.ee is some bastion of free speech absolutism. Users or communities breaking rules on lemm.ee are dealt with. Also, we do reserve the right to defederate any instance which starts causing problems for lemm.ee on a bigger scale (so in cases where banning individual users is not effective).
I realize this is a topic where it’s impossible to make everybody happy, because each person has their own view on what should be federated or defederated. At the end of the day, for anything that’s not illegal or directly hurting lemm.ee, I believe it’s best to leave these decisions up to users - you can make your own choices with which users and communities you block, and I’m certain that soon you’ll have the tools built in to Lemmy itself to make the same decision on an instance level as well. And if that doesn’t work for you, then there’s always the possibility of joining a different instance with a different approach to federation.
If I understand this page right, https://lemm.ee will never show the top post of the day from https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/, https://discuss.tchncs.de/, or https://feddit.uk/.
The top posts from all of those instances will have a chance to appear on your front page of lemm.ee, as long as at least one lemm.ee user has previously subscribed to the community those top posts are posted on!
If you put your front page on “subscribed”, then you will see posts from all communities you are subscribed to, regardless of whether these communities are lemmy.ml, feddit.uk or any other instance.
If you put your front page on “all”, you will see posts from ALL communities that have at least one subscriber on lemm.ee (again, regardless of what instance these communities are housed on).
So to be clear, you have nothing to worry about! 😃
Let me know if any of this doesn’t make sense, I’m happy to explain further.
