Wow, what kind of person would go on the Internet and just pretend to be somebody else online? People these days have no shame anymore.

I vote for the new name to be Margot Linux.

Nothing. Literally nothing. Bad gifts are for annoying close friends, any amount of effort put into a gift for your father would imply that you care what he thinks.

This is why a lot of women keep our nerdy hobbies to ourselves and don’t really talk about them much in public.

People get weird.

To me, the biggest advantage of a federated tracker like this is the ability to self host without relying on any centralized service, so in no particular order

1. A community maintained repository based database system, so when someone initiate an instance of your tracker, it starts off completely empty, and then the admin can pull from a “seasonal anime” repo for the tracker to track seasonal animes, an “anime movie” repo, a “j-drama” repo " a “Hollywood movies” repo or any combination of the above, or pull from an URL for a custom tracking list.

2. Local/global average rating/rating distribution.

3. Some kind of upvote system for reviews to discourage short, low effort reviews that plagued Letterbox. Lemmy’s “active/hot” sorting algorithm is pretty good and you may be able to use just that.

4. User created lists and also the ability to share them publicly or privately.

A more accurate analogy would be along the lines of having jets and helicopters in the world but still using cars or trains as the main form of transportation.

Speak for yourself, I first got on Lemmy to promote a movie, and the next thing I know, I was using Arch (BTW) and moderating an Android community.

I’m still not quite sure how that happened. This place.

But the good news is you just kinda learn quite a bit about every hobby you pick up, so people are always impressed with how much random stuff you know.

Hey, I have preferences too, but people can like what they like, my preferences for phones is no more or less valid than anyone else’s.

Of course I am, why would Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Robbie go on the Internet to lie to you? Because she thinks messing with a bunch of tech people on a niche forum is hilarious?

That would be pretty bizarre.

The other day, I saw an A-list Hollywood actress going around Lemmy shitposting and promoting her latest movie on Lemmy.

She’s obviously very talented and very hot and deserves to finally get an Oscar this year, but I would say it’s pretty bizarre.

Also she’s now the top mod of !android@lemmy.world for some reason.
