I procrastinate from my real work by designing retro miniatures, you can find them all here https://cults3d.com/en/users/Doctor-Spork/creations
Cheers, I think it might be my only vibe when it comes to miniature painting 😂
None of them are.
The figures in the original post are from a kickstarter coming out later in the year, I don’t have anything to do with it myself but I was lucky enough to get a set of the early casts.
The tank is one of my own designs that I 3D printed, I’ve uploaded it to Cults 3D https://cults3d.com/en/users/Doctor-Spork/3d-models
The other fully painted ones I posted in the comments are from a couple of places. The big fell with the sword is from L72 Miniatures https://l72smetalminiaturesmusings.wordpress.com/ and the other two are tech cultists from Checkpoint Miniatures https://www.checkpointminiatures.co.uk/shop/ftw13-tech-cultists-with-leader/
To add to this I have the patriarch and landspeeder from L72 Miniatures, a bunch more of the tech cultists to use a brood brothers, a magus from Hybrid Miniatures, the land raider proxy I designed and 3D printed and a scratch built limo that I am building from a toy car.
This was meant to be a dozen figures and a limo for playing skirmish games with because my wife bought me some of the tech cultists, but as these things often do the scope of this project has grown arms and legs. Which is sort of appropriate for a Genestealer Cult I suppose.
They’re a purestrain proxy from Hybrid Miniatures, I think it’s inspired on the original art work for genestealers in the Rogue Trader rulebook. I’m attempting to make the whole army from non GW miniatures.
They are really nice models, I’ve got another five of them to paint at some point.
Cheers, these were the first ones i finished. So in theory they should look something like this when I am done.
Yeah, sorry. I think I messed it up trying to add the thumbnail picture. That should be it fixed now.
Cheers, there are another five and patriarch to add to this lot
Cheers.
These were the first four that I did for a game of Necromunda at BOYL, So the rest should end up looking like them.
Squiggly beasts were fantastic, but I have to disagree about the Zoanthrope I’ve always loved it. I am a bit odd though.
Josh has a really clean simple style for doing NMM that doesn’t look to out of place on older miniatures (you can see it in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1OAylxlbyc ) so hopefully I’ll be able do something like that in future.
In the painting guide I posted in reply to another comment Mike McVey describes his method for painting gold start with a white base coat then paint a mix of gold and yellow ink over it. That is such a mad concept to me that you would paint gold over white.
Cheers, I’m not so sure about the metallics myself. I’ve been getting lessons from Josh at the Crown of Command podcast and he has really pushed my colours and highlighting to the next level, but the next lesson is non metal metallics which I am hoping will really improve that part of my painting as currently I think it is lacking.
Me too, everything must be red!
I recently got this book, it may have had a slight effect on my choice of colours
I used a set of these

That looks cool. It’s amazing how little it takes to change the whole mood of a model.
Cheers, I’ve always loved adding little embellishments to models. One day I might try to sculpt a miniature from scratch.
I should be up for that, I’ve really been getting into the swing of things with my painting recently.
Cheers, I use the Vallejo’s golden olive. It really pops.
