There is no contradiction. Anyone can put their foot in their mouth or trip up what they’re saying. Doesn’t mean they are casual or even rare users of racial slurs. My point is If somebody is saying something racist it’s easy enough to criticize that without resorting to pointing out they used one phoneme of a bad word. It just sounds petty and it doesn’t at all speak to the people that need convincing that the rhetoric around immigrants is unacceptable. Do you want to feel superior or do you want to win?

It’s not clear! Just my interpretation :) I’m an atheist now but when I was growing up I was always confused why Jesus said “sell everything you own and give to the poor” and Christians were like “it’s a metaphor” lol idk seems pretty clear to me

I interpreted it as giving all the money you have on you to someone in desperate need. Otherwise it doesn’t really make sense lol. This of course is subverted by the fact that today people don’t carry money on their person

I definitely loved certain aspects of discovery lol. I just hated how f’d up they made the rest of the timeline and I don’t love the future they locked TNG era into even if it was an interesting story to tell (except for the final episode with crying kid destroying dilithium because wtf)

I’m not saying it doesn’t make sense I just personally found it hard to parse.

Did you have an adult in your life constantly telling you how lucky you are and it will only get worse when you were a teen? That shit robs you of your joy then and later; that mentality sets you up for failure. That’s what OPs post is describing. And if you think that people who are disabled or can’t make ends meet can’t have joy in their lives then you’re reinforcing the narrative that you must have certain things in order to “win at life”. Even if there is an element of truth to the sentiment there’s no reason to blow out of proportion that life is one endless stream of misery once you’re X many years older
