[Edit: New Moderation Team has since been installed by Reddit]

I mean, I totally get it. People keep posting (according the the mod) stuff like “DRONES ARE SPYING ON ME”, of course, who’d want to moderate that shit? I’m glad the user decided to quit, and not have to babysit weirdos spamming conspiracy theories. (Its unpaid anyways, why even do it if the conspiracy-therory-filled community doesn’t appreciate it)

Welp, that’s a subreddit shutdown I haven’t seen for a while. Good luck to whoever is next to deal with weird conspiracy shit.

Niche communities used to be all over the place on a bunch of sites and forums, and only kind of recently (last 10 years or so) converged on Reddit. The way “it’s on another website” became enough to deter people from visiting makes it feel like we have collectively managed to forget that the internet isn’t exclusively made out of the top 10 most visited sites… :(

But maybe the small community and fediverse would be a better fit for them. Not necessarily the drones.

Non-fpv camera drones. I can’t really handle the quick reaction needed for fpv. And also I don’t really like to be in fpv.

I just explore places. Explore my neighborhood. Just observe as if I was a bird in the sky (I don’t hover over people lol, I fly at least 60 meters / 200ft up and just chill and watch the roads and traffic). I sometimes go to a nearby park (that has no drone restrictions) and have a wide unobstructed line of sight, and I explore the park, just fly past people at the park and just watch their reactions (again, not directly over their heads), people seem intrigued. Basically just free roaming the skies, free as a bird (with a limited range due to battery limitations). Longest distance I got was 4000 meter and I barely made it back with less than 10% battery left. I once lost a drone because I forgot about the headwind on the way back. 🙃

I currently have an Autel Evo Nano+

Used to have Potensic Atom (not bad for an “off brand” drone btw)

Before that is just shitty toy-grade “Holystone” drones.

I despise DJI because of Geofencing.
