I used Linux for an entire year as my primary OS and I can confirm it sucks in many ways. The number of Linux evangelists on Lemmy is really high. It’s good that this community exists as counterbalance.
Memes helped build it and give later articles more reach. They also grab attention better than text. -I prefer how I can do that here over how Reddit works by including an article with the meme still being visible in the feed.
On reddit, spamming the memes helped tip the balance in the ‘free speech’ sub of the same name. I ultimately made my own sub there though (there’s favoritism toward ‘Linux users’.
Sure, but there’s some people who do nothing else but post this stuff, which is when it veers into the territory of being pretty weird. Although I think at least the “Linux users are criminals” weirdo (who was deadly serious about that) who hung around here a lot seems to have gotten banned now, they weren’t just really fucking weird but actually belligerent about it
They did have a kinda point about it being a tool of criminals, and Linux advocates tend to be overly concerned about privacy. I don’t think that’s what makes the evangelists and hardcore users though. -I see that more as conspiracy theory issues or ‘it runs on old hardware’ types.
It’s just memes.
