Law enforcement officials are working to learn more about Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old who tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
20-year-old, registered Republican, Thomas Matthew Crooks is the shooter, yes, but the donation to ActBlue referred to in the headline of this post was apparently made by somebody else.
Right now, all we know is he is a registered Republican, but that is meaningless by itself. It is common for Democrats to register as Republicans to vote in the primary.
That doesn’t mean he wasn’t a Republican, but we do not know at this point in time.
We know he donated 15 dollars to a blue group. By itself, once again meaningless.
I get people want to jump to conclusions and speculate, but we do not know much about the situation at this time.
Many people are focusing on it but he gave 15 dollars one time several years ago. It’s puzzling when matched with his republican registration but neither gives much insight at this point.
Had he given a million dollars, that’d be more interesting.
Context is something that most people can’t grasp on lemmy. I have donated to aoc before. I don’t agree with her on much but I like that she’s working with republicans to try to get things done. That doesn’t mean I’m lefty, it just means I want to support people who are trying to work together
$15, on Inauguration Day when it literally didn’t matter lol. He was a registered Republican.
Looks like it wasn’t even him anyway – the ActBlue donation was registered to a Thomas Crooks, not Thomas Matthew Crooks:

FBI has already confirmed it’s him the name and addresses match.

The donation was made by the shooter as the fbi confirmed. The addresses and name match.
Ah, ok - I assumed that you linked an outdated source but yes, it does appear that they are the same.
For the record, here’s confirmation of the donation address:

Right, which is why it’s a bit odd that OP chose to highlight the one single fact as the entire headline for this article.
