I’m Dragontamer, a long time member of /r/RealTesla. Although I’ve never had moderation duties on the subreddit, I think most /r/RealTesla posters would recognize me.
Like many other Communities created this week on Lemmy.world, /r/RealTesla stood with the Reddit moderators and shut down indefinitely. This is a great time for the /r/RealTesla community to experiment with the Fediverse. I admit that I don’t know how long our stay here will be, but as day3 of the blackout rolls by, its time to start experimenting with alternative homes.
For those from Lemmy.world, /r/RealTesla serves as a grounded discussion of Electric Vehicles without the need to worship Elon Musk. There is a need for a community site where people are allowed to complain about their Tesla problems without getting banned from the mainstream, often Tesla-controlled and moderated, sites. /r/RealTesla serves as that home.
A number of “Teslagenial” topics have come up on the regular: Twitter drama, SpaceX drama and the like. As Elon Musk owns these companies, it is somewhat on topic. But I’ll work to make sure that the front page remains mostly Tesla based. In general, off-topic chatter is allowed as long as we don’t lose our focus on Electric Vehicles, Tesla and such subjects.
Rules
All Rules were based in the original /r/RealTesla rules.
The most common broken rule is Rule#5: All Links must include the original title of the content. Editorializing is bad enough on the internet as it is, we don’t need to make it worse by adding our own personal bias to it. Just link the original article and include the original title.
Rule#3 needed to be changed as “Reddit Flairs” are not yet implemented on Lemmy. Shitposts are allowed, but limited. /r/RealTesla had a sense of humor, but we don’t want it to overwhelm the discussion. Feel free to joke or go off topic a bit, but don’t overwhelm the front page to the point of distracting the other users.
Rule#2, “MetaPosts”, are posts discussing /r/RealTesla, its members, or its rules. They aren’t off topic, but they are often dramatic. Meta-posts will be welcomed in the GigaThread. It is only the creation of a new topic that needs to be regulated. If you feel the need to call high-notice to your Meta-issue or Meta-discussion, ask the moderators before posting otherwise the topic will be deleted on the spot.
Rule#8 might be confusing for long term Redditors or new users from Lemmy. Image Posts commonly were used to circumvent Rule#5, by making a post on Twitter, taking a screenshot of it, and then editorializing a misleading title on top of it. Due to long-term abuse of image posts, this is hard-banned in this community. No “image posts” allowed. You may not have posts mostly consisting of a text inside of a .gif or .jpg picture. Especially if you’re trying to circumvent rule#5.
