  • Pretty sure that depends entirely on the individual. Since being deaf (or blind for that matter) isn’t as binary as it appears there are various degrees of hearing impairment. Perhaps one person is completely deaf, while another is still able to perceive certain frequencies, and yet another just needs it to be really fucking loud but if it is they hear just fine.

From my personal experience with a nearly deaf acquaintance they are using a special kind of hearing aid they can tie into their devices via Bluetooth. So they have the sound sent directly to the device specifically configured to allow them to hear.

  • Okay i dont want to shill on lemmy of all places, but i personally use a very similar watch i chose for the same reasons as you: i wanted an actual, physical wristwatch, with basic smart functionalities and a long battery life.

I settled on the scanwatch light made by withings. Looks like a classic wristwatch with a small black and white smart display as well as the standard health functions such as an activity tracker/reminder and pulse meter. The battery holds for 2-4 weeks on a single charge, depending on your use case.

I have had it for about six months now and am pretty satisfied. Only drawbacks are the need for the proprietary companion app and the somewhat archaic charger you have to clamp the watch into, though due to the long battery life you very rarely have to deal with that.

  • This is important. While we as a society have learned to be more inclusive than ever before, behind all that pretense we forget that what people generally consider as “retarded” isnt desirable. It is a genuine developmental impairment that negatively affects the individuals cognitive abilities. Not one parent in the world is glad their kid is special. They may love and support them just the same because they aren’t fucking ghouls, but if they had one wish no questions asked I’m sure virtually all of them would wish for their child to be “normal”.

And therein lies the truth/problem. We use retarded as a slur because it describes a condition of inferiority. Shifting the window of acceptable speech will not change this, only rephrase it. Policing language never truly works, eventually a different word for the same meaning takes hold, so all this does is spin the wheel of synonyms.

  • Not defending the practice in a combat scenario because that’s obviously dumb especially in the uber warfare that’s happening in 40k. Virus bombs that can destroy entire ecosystems in proverbial seconds, rounds and shells with more diameter than a fucking bus, chaos sorcery of the worst kind is a frequent encounter as well.

But for propaganda material it makes a lot of sense I’d say, the masses need to see their heroes’ faces. There are also some marine chapters that use mutated or otherwise extreme gene seed when making their warriors, for example one chapter becomes a lot more animalistic in its physical characteristics and the helmet negatively impacts their altered natural senses.

  • Akshully, a significant portion of them prefers to fight without a helmet where possible, for various reasons such as chapter culture or certain gene seed variants. The primarchs are also often depicted without helmets, but considering the lore is essentially imperial propaganda it might make sense to depict them that way for PR reasons.
