The passenger in question was connecting through Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
I didn’t know that you could get access to checked items during a layover. I can see how that would be an easy thing for the workers to mess up. Not that it’s okay–I would be pretty unhappy if I’m usually independent and instead I have to rely on airport staff to push me around. Just something I found interesting.
What type of ‘scooter’ are we talking? I wouldn’t have thought a typical mobility scooter would be within even an overweight baggage allowance: you have to actually lift it into the plane. It’s not going to be palletised airfreight on a domestic flight.
Probably just something standard like a Pride Go Go 3- or 4-wheel. They just fucked up and stuck it with standard luggage instead of the quick access area for mobility devices and strollers.
